Spider Vein Laser Therapy

in Therapy

Ok so a lot of my friends have been asking my about laser therapy for their spider veins, so I called my brother Doctor Mike and he referred me to a couple of his friends that do that. Now just to be clear I have spider veins and use a cream which I will list below and it works just fine for me. I do not recommend this because it is expensive, but if you don't mind shelling out then this could be for you.

Laser Vein Therapy

Now just to be 100% clear laser therapy is non-surgical, which I didn't know until recently. What they do is use lasers to pinpoint exact amounts of energy to specific places. These bursts of energy get absorbed into the vein and help stop the bleeding.

Can it work for you?

The simplest answer is yes. Just be aware that the veins can come back at some point in time. It all boils down to your skin type and if you have any direct problems that are causing the veins.

What is it like?

First they identify what areas need to be treated. Then they run the lasers down the length of the vein starting with the worst areas. The left over blood is absorbed into your body so there is no cleanup needed. The procedure is not painful but it is discomforting, sort of like a strong sunburn.

How many times will I need to do this?

This is usually not a one time event. If you have them pretty bad you will have to have a handful of treatments, you can do them around once a month.

What if I have spider veins really bad?

Then you can get laser therapy in combination with sclerotherapy, which is when they flush out you veins with an injection of a salt solution. The procedure is slightly painful and causes the vein to turn white then disappear. Usually a treatment can last around 30min and is multiple injections, this procedure is also expensive.

How long will it take me to get back on my feet?

After these procedures you will have to wear support hose for a few weeks. This will keep constant pressure on the veins and keep them closed. There will be heavy bruising for the first week. The veins should disappear within three to seven weeks after treatment.

Try not to do anything strenuous for at least 48 hours. Keep in mind it might take many months so see results.
